"How much of oneself is reflected in the mirror vs. on social media?"

Between the Mirror -

The persistence of the photographed selfie on social media challenges our understanding of the reflected image.
Between the Mirrors explores this relationship by using mirrors to create a mise en abyme filled with reflections. It invites the audience to reflect on their connection with their own image and consider the gap between reality and reflection. The paintings illustrate the distance between what is real and what is merely mirrored.

My practice has always centered on portraiture, particularly women's self-portraits, which I use to explore themes of identity.

The works often begin with an idea or concept that emerges from my daily life. Over the past year, my fascination with mirrors has deepened. I’ve experimented with self-portrait painting on mirrors, intrigued by these everyday objects that everyone possesses. Mirrors have long been a symbol in art history, carrying multiple layers of meaning.

Similarly, I want to use the mirror as a metaphor for the screen.

Between the mirrors is an exhibit exploring the relationship between the audience’s perception of themselves, the artist, and the artist’s own identity. It asks: How much of oneself is reflected in the mirror vs. on social media?

I am currently investigating how to use the mirror both conceptually and visually.
I’m exploring it as both a tool of symbolic self-reference that reflects back to the inner self and an object that projects our image outward to the world around us.
